One of the cornerstones of Rotary is working on projects together.
Collaborating on meaningful initiatives draws members in, energizes them, and
makes club life more engaging. We all have the desire to do good and help
others. That help might take the form of hands-on involvement or organizing a
fundraising project to support a worthy cause.
Rotary projects come in many forms. Some are local and short-term,
others have been running for years. We have small projects, international
initiatives, and large-scale efforts like PolioPlus. Our world-renowned Rotary
Foundation plays a vital role in making many of these projects possible.
During my first two days as Governor, I had the privilege of taking
part in two inspiring projects: the Swiss Mountain Adventure Camp (Rotary-SMAC.ch | Camp) organized by
RC Martigny, and a golf tournament organized by Alain Reymond from RC Jorat.
The 54th Swiss Mountain Adventure Camp – formerly known as Camp
Thomas Kaiser – is an exceptional initiative that has been running for over 50
years. Each year, 24 young people from around the world come together for a
two-week camp to learn mountain climbing. This year’s participants came from 17
countries. At the closing event, even the Governor’s courage was put to the
test – thank you! The Camp is a fantastic idea and a remarkable experience for
the youth, the club, and the region (see photo).
I’d also like to remind everyone that the Geneva clubs are
organizing the Rotary Cycling World Championships (Rotary World Cycling Championship 2025) at the beginning of
September. I warmly encourage all Rotarians to mark their calendars and join
this iconic event. It’s not about fierce competition—it’s about participation
and community.
Wishing you all a wonderful summer!
Jouni K. Heinonen
District Governor 2025-2026
