The rotarian Friendship

Monday, July 7, 2025

For me, the most important value of Rotary is friendship.

Friendship in Rotary is not just about weekly meetings over a good meal and a glass of wine. It’s also about doing meaningful things together—joining forces to make a real difference, sharing challenges with trusted friends, and most importantly, caring for one another.

Over the years, Rotary has clearly proven its value. Numerous large and small projects have been carried out with pride and dedication. We all know our flagship project, Polio+, but we should also celebrate the many smaller initiatives each club has undertaken. Whether it’s a Rotary plaque on a bridge, a house, or a children’s playground—these are tangible reminders of what we can achieve together. Such accomplishments are only possible through collaboration and friendship. Alone, we may be able to move a stone—but together, we can move mountains.

A positive and welcoming club atmosphere is a vital part of this spirit of friendship. Personally, I’ve always appreciated the respectful and warm environment during our lunches and events. Even during difficult times in my own life, I found the space and support to share and be heard. Let us make sure that no Rotarian is left behind—because at some point, each of us needs a helping hand.

In these turbulent times—marked by war, natural disasters, and political instability—our bond of friendship is more important than ever.

I wish you all a peaceful and relaxing summer.
